Abraham Quintanilla, the father of late Tejano star Selena Quintanilla, has died, according to an official statement shared by the family on social media. The announcement was posted on Instagram by A.B. Quintanilla, Selena’s younger brother.

Abraham Quintanilla was born on February 20, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas. The family did not disclose the cause of death.

He began his music career in the 1950s with the group The Dinos and later founded Selena y Los Dinos, helping launch Selena’s career and achieve international recognition. Quintanilla is survived by his wife, Marcella Ofelia Quintanilla, and his children Abraham III (A.B.), Suzette, and Selena.
