Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is taking off on PlayStation 5, marking the first time a Microsoft Flight Simulator title hits a Sony console. The move reflects Microsoft’s push to bring its top games to more platforms following its 2023 acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

The announcement came during Sony’s State of Play on September 24, 2025, with the game set to launch on December 8, 2025, across PlayStation 5 consoles worldwide.

Microsoft aims to tap into the huge PlayStation audience—65 million PS5 units sold by mid-2025, compared to 28 million Xbox Series X/S—while exploring multiplatform strategies to compete with game streaming services like Netflix, according to Phil Spencer.

Despite the excitement, some players have voiced frustrations online. One fan tweeted, “Ok I could fly 1 minute with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 then the game crashed. Again. One year after release and the game still doesn’t run properly. Shame on you, Microsoft.” These reactions highlight ongoing concerns about stability, even as the game expands to new platforms.

The PS5 version will take full advantage of PlayStation’s hardware, including DualSense adaptive triggers, as explained by Microsoft’s Jorg Neumann, promising a gameplay experience tailored for console players while signaling a shift in the traditional console rivalry.
