Renowned Regional Mexican artist Julión Álvarez was honored tonight at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAS) in Las Vegas, winning in the category of Best Latin Group.

Despite the win, Álvarez was unable to attend the ceremony due to the recent cancellation of his U.S. work visa, a setback that has also forced him to suspend several scheduled concerts across the United States.

This is not the first time the singer has faced obstacles entering the country. In 2017, Álvarez was linked to an investigation by the U.S. Department of the Treasury over alleged connections to illicit activities. As a result, he was added to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions list. Although he was later cleared of all charges and allowed to reenter the U.S., the aftermath of that legal process continues to affect his international career.

At this year’s AMAS, Álvarez triumphed over major acts such as Grupo Frontier, Grupo Firme and Calibre 50 reaffirming his enduring popularity and influence within the Regional Mexican genre, despite the legal and immigration challenges he has faced.
