Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, announced this Sunday during the closing of the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, held online, that “Gears of War: E-Day” will be the next major installment in the Gears of War franchise, with an estimated release date set for 2026, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Xbox.
According to Spencer, E-Day will be a fresh and exciting experience for longtime Gears fans. During the online event, he also confirmed the next Forza game and possibly the return of Halo.
“We’re thrilled to see how the community has grown, and how video games have become part of the global language. In 2026, Xbox will celebrate not just its history, but the future we will continue building together,” said the Microsoft Gaming CEO.
Phil Spencer began working in 1988 and has held various positions since then, until he joined the Xbox team in 2001, where he led and helped grow the team into what it is today.
