DC Studios presents the trailer for a new version of Superman

“Superman,” the first feature film from DC Studios’ newly imagined universe, will be released in theaters worldwide in summer 2025. The film will premiere internationally starting July 9 and arrive in theaters across the United States on July 11, including IMAX® screenings

Directed and written by James Gunn, the film presents a fresh take on the legendary superhero, blending epic action, humor, and emotional depth. Gunn’s version of Superman is portrayed as a hero guided by compassion and a deep belief in the goodness of people.

David Corenswet takes on the role of Clark Kent/Superman, marking the first modern big-screen version of the character not played by British actor Henry Cavill, who portrayed the superhero in several films from 2013 to 2022.

Cavill’s departure followed a strategic reboot of the DC Universe under new leadership at DC Studios. According to studio co-chair James Gunn, the new film required a younger version of the character to fit the long-term narrative plans of the franchise’s new direction.

While the new actor brings a fresh perspective to the role, some longtime fans have noted that he lacks the physical presence and charismatic appeal that Henry Cavill brought to the character during his tenure as Superman.

David Corenswet stars in the lead role as Clark Kent/Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The cast also includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell.

The project is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Executive producers include Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo, and Lars Winther. The creative team features several of Gunn’s longtime collaborators, including director of photography Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky, composers John Murphy and David Fleming, and editors William Hoy and Craig Alpert.

Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, “Superman” is a production of DC Studios, Troll Court Entertainment, and The Safran Company, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
